Eamon O’Rourke won a ReFrame Stamp for his directorial debut Asking for It and it’s a moment he says he will never forget. The award is only given to select films and TV shows promoting gender equality and inclusivity for historically overlooked individuals. O’Rourke has never been one to shy away from crafting a powerful female protagonist — and in the case of Asking for It, she also happens to be a woman of color.

Asking for It, which was filmed in a quaint Oklahoma town, chronicles a band of marginalized vigilante women seeking justice against sexual assault and other wrongdoings.

The film was met with plenty of critical acclaims, including accolades from Carla Renata of thecurvyfilmcritic.com, who praised O’Rourke for creating “a thought-provoking, kinetic tale where women are taking their power and control back while kicking butt and taking names.”

Renata added that she appreciated the femme-forward narrative of Asking for It.

“O’Rourke’s approach to these very serious, timely, and vital issues [is] fresh, awe-inspiring, and a glimpse into a filmmaker with his finger on the pulse while blowing any and all precious expectations in how cinema approaches and tells these stories moving forward,” she observed.

When Eamon O’Rourke was assembling the cast and crew for Asking for It, he said he wanted to create a strong flow of diversity on set while fostering a solid sense of balance and community.

Eamon O’Rourke Keeps the Cultural Conversation Open

“I think that the ReFrame Stamp is one of the things that I’m the most proud of, because it is an indication of our commitment to prioritizing what the process was going to be,” O’Rourke explained.

Having worked on multiple movie sets throughout his career in a variety of genres, Eamon O’Rourke said he’s seen some people mistreated on sets and he used those experiences to create a totally opposite vibe while he’s in the director’s chair. He explained that having his cast and crew walk away feeling positive, safe, and respected will always be paramount to his filmmaking magic.

With the lead characters and most of the primary roles in Asking for It being portrayed by women of color, O’Rourke said he also wanted to feature LGBTQ+ and Indigenous people alongside actors from an array of ethnicities.

“The project is one that very much lends itself to a wide variety of voices,” O’Rourke pointed out. “And a lot of voices are included that are not always necessarily at the forefront of the media that we consume. Particularly, I mean, the main characters and most of the primary characters are all women of color. There’s a lot of queer characters and Native [American] and Indigenous characters.”

Having women in positions of power was something Eamon O’Rourke said he wanted to represent both on and off the screen.

“I wanted to make sure that at the very least, all of our key department heads were women and were ideally women of color or Native women,” Eamon O’Rourke said. “People who are going to be in positions of power, it felt really important to have them mirror the people that we were representing on screen

Bringing authenticity to the characters in his films is another priority O’Rourke said is high on his list.

“The purpose of trying to achieve diversity is not to check boxes, but rather to create a fuller and more comfortable experience,” O’Rourke revealed.

And Eamon O’Rourke does exactly that during his film productions. He said he can’t ask actors to put themselves in a vulnerable position without ensuring he’s taken every precaution to make them feel at home while doing so.

“Alongside the comfort of actors or other people who they’re working for, et cetera, is also for me, and I feel this about all projects, but with this project in particular, something that felt really important was understanding the gaps in my own knowledge and understanding the limits of my inherent personal bias,” O’Rourke candidly confessed. “We all have those things. Just the perspectives that we’re able to understand quite quickly and some things that we’ve had less access with [or] we had no access with, which just creates these gaps.”

Diversity Continues To Play Leading Role in O’Rourke’s Work

O’Rourke admitted he doesn’t see it as a negative thing and instead perceives it as an opportunity to grow. ”It’s just a part of being a person. It felt really important to me to be able to recognize those things within myself and be surrounded by people who can help me in those moments, help me fill in the gaps,” he added.

He described being on a film set surrounded by a strong sense of diversity has given him an opportunity to ask deeper questions on whether or not a line or a certain scene feels authentic. It gave the Brooklyn, New York-based creative a chance to make adjustments and build accountability and honesty.

“Luckily, I was working with a lot of really, really wonderful people who we were able to gain a lot of trust between us,” Eamon O’Rourke said. “They were very comfortable giving their opinions and sharing their perspectives in those moments, which I think really just helped the movie overall.”

Delivering purpose-driven projects is another element O’Rourke said he intends to continue to inject into his work. Much like his desire for his cast and crew members to feel at ease on set, he wants his audience to connect with his work in such an effortless way that they will want to watch his films over and over again. He says he’s been known to watch his favorite films on repeat over the years and hopes to instill the same vibe in his own work.

“I like to watch movies that I’m very familiar with a lot of the time,” O’Rourke revealed. “The experience of nostalgia that comes along with doing something that is familiar to you is something that I love.”

With his latest work, Eamon O’Rourke is aiming to find a happy medium between timely topics while also remaining entertaining. “[I want to make] a movie that hopefully has a lot of rewatch-ability. I think that trying to balance those things is something that I think about a lot with all of the work that I have done and I’m trying to do.”

Millions of people daily use Tylenol or acetaminophen under generic names to treat minor to moderate pain and fever. Acetaminophen has long been regarded as the most secure over-the-counter pain treatment for expectant mothers.

However, numerous product liability claims have been brought by pregnant women who used Tylenol or generic acetaminophen and whose offspring have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

If your baby was diagnosed with autism and you frequently used Tylenol or acetaminophen, also known as paracetamol, while you were pregnant, you might be eligible for compensation. If that is the case, you can file a Tylenol lawsuit. Speak with an experienced lawyer to learn more about the Tylenol lawsuit. Choose a law firm that can fight for you and has vast experience and success in pharmaceutical liability litigation.

A request to combine the cases into multidistrict litigation has been made due to the rise of Tylenol autism lawsuits MDL. On September 29, 2022, the Judicial Panel of Multidistrict Litigation heard the motion -JPML. On October 5, 2022, the JPML court formed the MDL; the task was entrusted to Hon. Denise L. Cote of the District Court for the Southern District of New York in the USA. In an MDL, similar cases are grouped to be decided in one court rather than placing all plaintiffs together in one complaint. This is similar to a class-action lawsuit in that many individuals who share the same criterion are merged to help them speed up the process.

Latest updates

December 2022: After the U.S. District Judge judging over the acetaminophen litigation issued a ruling and order in November 2022 refusing the retailer’s move to dismiss ADHD and autism cases filed by two families, Walmart filed a request for an expedited appeal. The filing of hundreds of further claims may be put on hold while the U.S. Court deliberates the Second Circuit of Appeals.

November 16, 2022: To serve in various leadership capacities throughout the proceedings as the federal MDL’s organizational structure was created, the court designated a group of 22 Tylenol autism lawyers. On matters relevant to numerous cases, these attorneys will act in the best interests of all plaintiffs. To prove that Tylenol was responsible for the child’s diagnosis of autism, each plaintiff will continue to work with a different lawyer. The team members included Alex Abston, Rachel Lanier, Mark Lanier, Ashley Keller, Mikal Watts, Catherine Heacox, Sarah Abston, and Cristina Delise. The first court proceedings against Johnson & Johnson and many stores were held the next day. The first court proceedings against Johnson & Johnson and many stores were held the next day.

October 20, 2022: An order for an acetaminophen litigation for all autism and ADHD litigation was made in response to the dangers of using Tylenol or other similar medications during pregnancy. Senior U.S. District Judge Denise Cote will rule over all matters in the Southern District of New York. The initial status conference is slated to take place on November 17.

September 2022: The U.S. JPML heard legal arguments on September 29, 2022, in St. Louis, Missouri, to decide whether to consolidate the acetaminophen pregnancy lawsuits for autism under a single judge for integrated committal hearings in a multidistrict action.

July 2022: The generic acetaminophen manufacturers and retailers resisted the aggregation of the claims, arguing that there needed to be more cases filed to justify centralization.

June 2022: On June 10, a group of plaintiffs submitted a motion (PDF) to the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) requesting the consolidation of lawsuits involving acetaminophen and autism lawsuits involving acetaminophen and ADHD filed in federal courts. The motion does not mention any Tylenol lawsuits filed regarding the consumption of the name-brand medication.

May 2022: Increasing numbers of acetaminophen-based painkiller Tylenol lawsuits claiming the drug causes autism and ADHD are being submitted to district courts across the country.

Liability claims for pharmaceuticals and other products are frequently settled. As of December 2022, the Tylenol autism lawsuit is still pending, making it difficult to forecast how much money the plaintiffs will receive.

There is finally light at the end of the tunnel from the coronavirus pandemic with June 21st the date set for restrictions to be lifted if all goes according to plan. Businesses will be desperate to kick on and start their recovery process and it could be a lucrative summer with experts expecting the economy to grow at the fastest rate in more than 70 years and to expand by 7.25% this year.

A Long Road Ahead

It is exciting to see that the economy looks set for a boom this summer and that the recovery might be quicker than originally thought, but it is important to not get carried away as you must remember that there is a lot of walls to climb in terms of economic recovery. The past 18 months or so have been devastating for the economy and businesses which resulted in a staggering contraction of 9.9% in 2020 – the biggest in 30 years.

Cautious Optimism

Andrew Bailey, the Governor of the Bank of England, has reiterated the importance of putting things into perspective and that while it was good news it still means that there will be two years with no growth in the economy. After the difficulties of the pandemic, it is understandable that people and businesses are feeling cautious but confidence is growing with the rapid vaccine rollout and falling cases.

Getting Ready for Summer

With things looking brighter for the summer and months ahead, businesses are now doing all that they can to prepare themselves to capitalize on this economic boom and hopefully start to recover from the pandemic. This might not be easy given the impact that COVID-19 has had across the board, which is why many are turning to business loans as a way to finance their self-investment.

Using a Cash Injection

Many businesses are in need of a cash injection to get themselves ready for the summer and business loans could be the best way to do this. The money could then be used in many different ways, including upgrading the business operation, purchasing new stock, hiring new staff, expanding, digital marketing or investing in new technology.

The Future

Businesses need to think about what the future will look like in a post-pandemic marketplace as it will not simply be businesses, as usual, come June 21st. COVID-19 will have long-term ramifications on consumer behavior and businesses need to find the best ways to attract customers in order to make the most out of the months and years ahead.

With the UK economy expected to grow by 7.25% in 2021 and a busy summer ahead, it is an exciting time for businesses and they will want to do all that they can to start recovery after such a challenging and difficult time for all.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson blames Chinese for coronavirus pandemic telling world leaders it was triggered by ‘demented’ people who ‘grind up the scales of a pangolin’ in bid to become more ‘potent’
  • He risked a diplomatic row with the remarks in a virtual speech to the One Planet Summit yesterday
  • Pangolins are heavily-trafficked scaly anteater-like creatures found across Asia used in Chinese medicine
  • Endangered species blamed for transmitting the virus from wild bats to humans via wet market in Wuhan

Boris Johnson has launched a blistering attack on China, blaming its ‘demented’ traditional medical practices for the coronavirus pandemic.

In a speech to world leaders yesterday he attacked people who ‘grind up the scales of a pangolin’ in a bid to become more ‘potent’.

He made the remarks, which risk a furious diplomatic row – in a speech to the One Planet Summit, hosted by France’s President Macron.

Pangolins are heavily-trafficked scaly anteater-like creatures, which have been blamed for transmitting the virus from bats to humans.

The first documented cases of the Covid-19 were in the Chinese city of Wuhan, with a wet market trading in exotic animals being seen as the probable source.

In comments that are likely to risk fury from Beijing, Mr Johnson said: ‘Obviously it’s right to focus on climate change, obviously it’s right to cut CO2 emissions, but we won’t achieve a real balance with our planet unless we protect nature as well.

‘One final thought, don’t forget that the coronavirus pandemic was the product of an imbalance in man’s relationship with the natural world.

‘Like the original plague which struck the Greeks I seem to remember in book one of the Iliad, it is a zoonotic disease.

‘It originates from bats or pangolins, from the demented belief that if you grind up the scales of a pangolin you will somehow become more potent or whatever it is people believe, it originates from this collision between mankind and the natural world and we’ve got to stop it.’

scales of a pangolin

But China hit back at the PM after his comments. Today Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said: ‘We’ve said many times that origin tracing is a scientific matter.

‘There is no room, no place, for people making speculations, hyping up – otherwise it will only disrupt international co-operation.’

On another day of chaos for Britons battling the worst crisis for a generation:

  • Bank of England governor Andrew Bailey warned furlough is masking unemployment and the true rate could be 6.5 per cent not 4.9 per cent;
  • The government is facing more pressure to make the vaccination programme 24-hours and start giving more frontline workers jabs;
  • Matt Hancock has denied there is a national oxygen shortage as the strain on the NHS increases but admitted patients might have to be moved to where there are supplies;
  • One in every three deaths in England and Wales was linked to coronavirus in the final days of 2020, official figures revealed today as a separate analysis claimed the virus was behind the sharpest rise in fatalities since 1940;
  • Downing Street has admitted pictures of the random contents in some free school meal food parcels are ‘completely unacceptable’ after the issue was highlighted by Marcus Rashford;
  • Seven vaccination hubs have come into use, including London’s ExCeL and Birmingham’s Millennium Point;
  • Derbyshire Police has cancelled £200 fines for two women penalised for driving five miles to go for a walk;
  • Nearly a quarter of care home residents have received their first shot of Covid vaccine, with nearly 2.7million doses now administered across the UK;
  • Hospitals started rationing oxygen as it emerged that one in four coronavirus patients is under 55.

Mr Johnson’s attack on China was followed today by a broadside by Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab over the treatment of the Uighur minority.

He said British firms will face heavy fines if they are lined to Chinese human rights abuse and companies will have to meet requirements showing their supply chains are free from forced labour in the Xinjiang province, the Foreign Secretary told the Commons this afternoon.

The Beijing government has been accused of widespread abuse in the area, home to the Muslim Uighurs, including allegations of forced sterilisation, slave labour and mass internment.

Members of the Uighur minority group have reportedly been made to pick cotton in Xinjiang province, leading to concerns British consumers could inadvertently be buying tainted goods.

Mr Raab said companies will be given robust guidance on how to carry out due diligence checks to make sure they are not sourcing products tainted by the human rights violations in the province.

He told MPs the picture of human rights abuses in Xinjiang was ‘harrowing’ and the UK had a ‘moral duty to respond’.

Pangolins inhabit tropical forests in India, China, south-east Asia and parts of Africa.

Out of the eight existing sub-species, three are critically endangered, and all of them are protected by international treaty.

The general hunting and trading of pangolins have been banned in China since the late 1980s, but the exotic mammals are still trafficked by the thousands for their perceived nutritional value.

Their scales are deemed as a previous ingredient by believers of traditional Chinese medicine and its than 123 tons were sold in 2019 on the black market.

People also eat their meat for the supposed health benefits and the animals’ blood is seen as a healing tonic.

Chinese web users labelled Boris Johson ‘laughable’ and ‘very ignorant’.

Under a Weibo post by the state-run Vhina Daily, one user who claimed to be a medical student said: ‘As a medical student majoring in traditional Chinese medicine, I feel the comment from the British Prime Minister is very ignorant, to be honest.’

Another critic wrote: ‘This is laughable. Does the British Prime Minister have a brain?’

Some took a step further and suggested that coronavirus had affected the PM’s ability to think.

One such user stated: ‘It seems that the novel coronavirus has affected not only Johnson’s lungs but also his brain.’

China has previously denied pangolin are a vector for moving the virus from bats to humans.

Last year researchers in the Communist state found that the animals are indeed natural hosts for various coronaviruses, but do not appear to be the direct source of Covid-19.

In November a different team from the Chinese Academy of Sciences claimed the virus likely originated in India in summer 2019 – jumping from animals to humans via contaminated water – before travelling unnoticed to Wuhan, where it was first detected.

Mr Johnson has previously called for greater protection for pangolins.

In 2018 he wrote a newspaper article calling for greater efforts to track down on hunting and smuggling the mammal.

He wrote: ‘As we get older we human beings are capable of all manner of self-deception. We go under the knife in the hope of looking younger. We take pills and potions of dubious efficacity.

‘But in the annals of human folly there is surely nothing more delusional than the belief still prevalent in large parts of Asia that a man can somehow rectify his waning virility by grinding and eating the scales of a pangolin.

‘And yet that is what they do. The tragedy is that all eight species of pangolin are now endangered, two of them critically so.

‘We are losing them to poachers at a rate of 100,000 a year. They are smuggled, butchered and cooked – all for the sake of their mythical medicinal qualities.’

Mr Johnson gathered Cabinet today amid fears lockdown could be tightened within days unless coronavirus numbers ease.

The PM has been holding a virtual meeting with his senior team as they consider the next move in the crisis wreaking havoc on the country.

Ministers have been desperately pleading with Britons to limit their contacts as the NHS struggles to cope with the volume of Covid patients, as police ramp up enforcement of the brutal restrictions.

But the government has made clear it is ready to get even tougher, with leading figures on SAGE pushing for a three metre social rule distancing rule and threats to axe the loophole allowing people to exercise with a friend from another household.

Other options thought to have been considered include stopping non-essential click-and-collect shopping, and closing more workplaces.

Matt Hancock hinted at a crackdown on exercising with one other person at a Downing Street briefing last night, saying the exception was being abused to socialise.

In another ominous sign this morning, Mr Johnson tweeted saying that ‘meeting others from outside your household or support bubble puts you and others at risk of serious disease’.

However, in a round of interviews policing minister Kit Malthouse risked muddying the message by saying a 70-mile cycle ride would count as ‘staying local’ under the lockdown rules.

Trump beats Obama to title of America’s most admired man in 2020, toppling the former president who has held the top spot on the Gallup poll for 12 years – and claims it is more evidence he won the election
  • President Trump is America’s most admired man of 2020, according to Gallup
  • Survey of 1,018 Americans gave president 18 per cent, unseating Barack Obama
  • Former president, who held top spot for 12 years, received 15 per cent
  • President-elect Joe Biden came in distant third with 6 per cent of the vote
  • Trump tweeted that survey backs up his claims that he is real winner of election

most admired man 2020

President Trump was named the most admired man of 2020 by a new Gallup survey, unseating his predecessor, Barack Obama, who held the top spot for 12 years in a row.

Trump received 18 per cent of the vote while Obama came in second at 15 per cent.

Joe Biden came in a distant third with 6 per cent, prompting the president to tweet that the Gallup poll backs up his claim that he was the real winner of the November 3 election and that the president-elect’s victory was fraudulent.

The president on Wednesday morning tweeted a quote from Mark Steyn, the media commentator who has been filling in as guest host on Tucker Carlson’s nightly prime time show on Fox News.

‘Barack Obama was toppled from the top spot and President Trump claimed the title of the year’s Most Admired Man,’ the president quoted Steyn as saying.

‘Trump number one, Obama number two, and Joe Biden a very distant number three.

‘That’s also rather odd given the fact that on November 3rd, Biden allegedly racked up millions more votes than Trump, but can’t get anywhere close to him in this poll.

‘No incoming president has ever done as badly in this annual survey.’

Trump then added his own remark, saying: ‘That’s because he got millions of Fake Votes in the 2020 Election, which was RIGGED!’

Days after the polling stations closed on November 3, media outlets declared Biden to be the winner of the presidential election.

The former vice president’s victory was then certified by key swing states like Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Earlier this month, a majority of the Electoral College officially cast its votes for Biden, making him the president-elect.

Since the election, Trump and his allies have filed dozens of lawsuits in state and federal court challenging the legality of millions of votes cast in the swing states.

The judges hearing the cases have dismissed the lawsuits, saying that the claims made by the Trump campaign and its supporters lack merit.

Biden defeated Trump in the Electoral College, winning 306 votes to Trump’s 232 – the same margin by which the president defeated Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in 2016.

The president-elect, however, won 7 million more popular votes than Trump – more than double the margin of Clinton’s popular vote victory over Trump.

The annual Gallup poll surveyed 1,018 Americans, asking them to name any living man and woman around the world that they most admired.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, came in fourth place with 3 per cent.

Normally, incumbent presidents have ranked first overall when Americans were asked by Gallup to name the man they admired most.

In the 74 years that Gallup has conducted the survey, the incumbent president has been the biggest vote-getter 60 times.

Whenever the sitting president doesn’t finish in first place, it is most likely due to his unpopularity.

In 2017 and 2018, Trump finished second to Obama. Last year, Obama and Trump were tied for first place.

This year, Trump still has below average approval ratings, but Republicans overwhelmingly support him while Democrats split their votes among several others.

According to the survey, 48 per cent of Republicans picked Trump as the most admired man. No other public figure received more than 2 per cent from Republicans who were surveyed.

Among Democrats, Obama received the most votes – 32 per cent – but that is down from 41 per cent last year.

President-elect Biden received 13 per cent of support among Democrats.

Fauci won the support of 5 per cent of Democrats but just 1 per cent of Republicans.

Independents even split their choice among Trump and Obama, both of whom received 11 per cent, while 3 per cent named Biden and 2 per cent picked Fauci.

Rounding out the top 10 of the most admired men are Pope Francis, Elon Musk, Senator Bernie Sanders, Bill Gates, LeBron James, and the Dalai Lama.

most admired woman 2020

When asked to name the most admired woman, an Obama still holds the top spot in that category.

Michelle Obama finished first with 10 per cent of the vote, followed by Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, First Lady Melania Trump, and Oprah Winfrey.

  • At least three people have reported losing permanent teeth after recovering from coronavirus
  • Tissues in the tonsils, tongue and salivary glands contain the ACE2 receptors that coronavirus attacks
  • But no research has yet confirmed that this strange phenomenon
  • Some coronavirus survivors are reporting a bizarre symptom in the aftermath of the infection: Their teeth have fallen out.

Farah Khemili, 43, made it through her bout with coronavirus this spring, but this month, while chewing a mint, the Voorheesville, New York resident discovered that one of her bottom molars was loose.

A day later, the tooth fell out altogether, bloodlessly and painlessly, she told the New York Times.

It didn’t hurt, but Khemili was confused and alarmed – and getting a replacement tooth made will cost her nearly $50,000. She went to the dentist, who told her she was losing bone in her jaws from a history of smoking.

But Khemili also suspected her battle with COVID-19 could have something to do with it. She checked her Facebook support group for long-haulers, and she wasn’t alone. At least one other woman and a 12-year-old boy had lost teeth in a similar manner after having COVID-19.

Dentists have not yet seen any concrete evidence or data that lose or lost teeth are symptoms or consequences of coronavirus.

But since the pandemic began, the list of symptoms of and parts of the human body attacked by coronavirus has only grown longer and incorporated effects that once seemed bizarre, like loss of smell.

Still, a small subset of people who shared two things in common – tooth-loss and COVID-19 – also doesn’t mean that they are connected.

Tooth loss without pain, a clear acute cause or underlying oral condition is very rare, making some dentists skeptical.

‘It’s extremely rare that teeth will literally fall out of their sockets,’ Dr David Okano, a periodontist at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, told the Times.

We do know, on the other hand, that coronavirus can attack the mouth.

Coronavirus enters human cells through protein ‘doorways,’ known as ACE2 receptors.

These receptors are found on the surfaces of many various types of cells, including lung tissue, blood vessels and, scientists recently learned, cells in salivary glands, tonsils and tongue are richest in ACE2 receptors.

    coronavirus cases

    coronavirus deaths

Researchers at the Oral and Craniofacial Research at the American Dental Association Science and Research Institute believe that this may help explain why some patients lose their sense of taste when they have COVID-19, and sometimes continue to be unable to taste property for weeks or months.

‘Our study shows that the mouth is a route of infection as well as an incubator for the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19,’ co-author of the study Dr Kevin Byrd, told Live Science.

Generally speaking, oral bacteria can raise the risk of lung infections, too, so the link between oral and respiratory health is bidirectional.

How exactly coronavirus might lead to tooth loss remains clear, though some scientists urge that dentists remain open-minded to the possibility that COVID-19 could trigger this symptom as well.

    Coronavirus in USA

Another woman in Khamili’s Facebook group said one of her molar teeth fell out while she was flossing.

‘That was the last thing that I thought would happen, my teeth would fall out,’ said the woman, Eileen Luciano, who lives in New Jersey.

Diana Berrent also posted in a group called Survivor Corp that her 12-year-old son had lost one of his permanent teeth after recovering from COVID-19. He’d never had dental issues before.

Coronavirus is notorious for causing inflammation, which is what ultimately kills many elderly people who catch the virus.

That same inflammation could attack the gums and mouth, which might be able to trigger tooth loss – but cases, where that may be the case, are sporadic so far, and much more research will be required to prove a link between COVID-19 and teeth falling out.

In the meantime, if you’re experiencing any discomfort in your teeth, it’s best to consult a dental expert like this one who does veneers and the best dental implants in Little Falls NJ.

Apple starts displaying its own search results in iOS 14 as the iPhone maker steps up efforts to build a Google killer
    • Apple has started displaying its own produced results and Siri links in iOS 14
    • It comes as the DoJ is investigating a deal between Apple and Google on search
    • The deal involves Google paying Apple to be the default search engine on iOS
    • This could be stopped by the Department of Justice as part of an antitrust case
    • Apple’s own web crawler AppleBot has also seen an increase in activity recently

Apple has started showing its own search results to iPhone users, in a move that reports claim is the latest in efforts to develop a possible Google Killer.

A barely noticed change in iOS 14 saw Apple show its own results or link directly to websites when users enter a search term on the home screen, the FT reports.

According to the report, showing Apple search results in iOS 14 is the latest in a series of moves that has fuelled rumours of a potential Apple search product.

Experts suggest the move could be linked to the US Department of Justice case against Google’s dominance of the search market, that could see its up to $12 billion deal to be the default search engine on iOS and Android take centre stage.

The DoJ could decide to block that move in future as part of an antitrust deal as Google is already the default search engine on Android-based devices.

Industry insiders claim showing its own search results in iOS 14 could be the start of an attack on Google – as the company also ramps up in-house search development.

    search results in iOS 14

The Silicon Valley firm poached John Giannandrea, Google’s head of search, from the tech giant in 2018 to work on AI capabilities and Siri – but he also brought with him years of running the world’s largest search engine, experts claim.

Apple have a ‘credible team that I think has the experience and the depth, if they wanted to, to build a more general search engine,’ according to Bill Coughran, Google’s former engineering head, speaking to the FT.

The company has also been seeking to expand the division, with job adverts for search engineers looking to ‘define and implement the architecture of Apple’s groundbreaking search technology’.

Apple is one of very few resources capable of taking on Google, with a market cap of over $2 trillion and $200 billion cash in hand, it can take the ‘long game’ that would be required to build a search engine that works well enough to compete.

Experts claim that any Apple search engine would be very focused on user privacy, something the company has sold itself on when compared to rivals such as Google.

The latest update to the iPhone operating system moves some Google searches aside in favour of Apple results – including the new ‘Today View’.

This shows an Apple-generated list of search suggestions rather than Google results and also include autocomplete-style results produced by Apple.

Apple has its own web crawler, that is used to scour the internet to develop search results – they are the cornerstone of any search engine including Google.

Named, AppleBot, experts claim it has been spotted scrawling websites ‘a ridiculous number of times’ in recent months, which is a sign Apple are gathering information.

Although it is also likely that the expansion of AppleBot is to improve Siri and Spotlight search results for various Apple systems.

The idea of an Apple search engine has been speculated on since 2015 when AppleBot was first confirmed by the company.

According to Sridhar Ramaswamy, co-founder of search firm Neeva, Apple is one of the only companies big enough to be able to search the whole of the internet.

He told the FT that smaller rivals such as DuckDuckGo and Neeva licence their index, used to build search results, from Microsoft’s Bing.

‘Apple’s position is very unique because it has the iPhone and iOS. It controls the default browser,” Ramaswamy told the FT, adding expanding to search ‘feels natural’ for Apple due to its ability to gather data and learn user behaviour at scale.

Apple announces a $99 HomePod Mini smart speaker at its ‘Hi, Speed’ virtual event
    • Spherical design of the speaker is similar in appearance to the latest Echo
    • Device has a mesh covering and features Apple’s smart assistant, Siri

Apple has unveiled a new smart speaker at its virtual showcase.

    Apple's new HomePod mini speaker

It comes in white, space grey and is open for orders November 6, with shipping starting on November 16. It will retail for $99, Apple announced.

The unveiling came during its ‘Hi, Speed’, event which was streamed from Apple’s headquarters in California at 6pm BST.

The annual launch event is nearly one month later than normal and comes as the coronavirus pandemic has disrupted Apple’s well-oiled machine for designing and churning out its biggest-selling product.

The Mini is powered by Apple’s S5 chip, the same one in the Apple Watch SE and Series 5.

The speaker has a mesh appearance similar in design to the latest Echo and has visual, audio and haptic interactions with a user’s iPhone.

The virtual event is also expected to be where the iPhone 12 range is launched.

World No 1 Novak Djokovic digs deep in one of the matches of the year and beats 22-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas in five-set epic to book blockbuster French Open final with Rafael Nadal
    • Novak Djokovic edged closer to the French Open title beating Stefanos Tsitsipas
    • The world No 1 was given a real scare in a 6-3, 6-2, 5-7, 4-6, 6-1 victory in Paris
    • Rafael Nadal has never lost a final at Roland Garros at any stage of his career
    • Djokovic has one French Open title to his name, beating Andy Murray in 2016

There were some in the cognoscenti that felt Stefanos Tsitsipas could break through the glass ceiling and reach the French Open final on Friday night and they were almost proven right under the lights in Paris.

    Stefanos Tsitsipas French Open final

In the end the 22-year-old Greek ran out of steam against Novak Djokovic having fought back from two sets down to take it the distance in a brutal four-hour encounter inside a fervent Philippe Chatrier.

The world No 1, whose only defeat in 2020 came after he was defaulted at the US Open when a stray ball struck a line judge, ran out 6-3, 6-2, 5-7, 4-6, 6-1 winner to join Rafael Nadal, who had earlier beaten Diego Schwartzman, in Sunday’s final.

Djokovic, 33, has one French Open title to his name, winning here in 2016 but for Nadal, he is chasing a 13th win at Roland Garros which would take his Grand Slam total level with Roger Federer’s 20.

Tsitsipas could barely shift his feet in the closing stages and it was a brutal reminder of the physical demands required to overcome Djokovic and the Greek will be stronger for this experience.
